JERRY HENSLEY
Cool Breeze Blowin' (DUSTCD22)

Jerry Hensley was born into country music. His grandfathers brother was A P Carter and his home is in the mountains of Hiltons Virgina,

All his life he has played country music. The first steps into the spotlight was when he played with Tommy Cash in his Tomcats. Then he started to play with Tommys more famous brother Johnny.

Jerry stayed with Johnny Cash for eight years, between 1974 and 1982. They toured a lot both in North America and Europe and sometimes Jerry opened the show with his own material. The story says that Johnny at some show got anxious and stopped Jerry after two songs afraid he should steal the show. Probably just a story but when you hear Jerry you'll won't be sure.

Jerry played on eight LP's with Johnny. His guitar can be heard on classic albums such as Gone Girl (It is Jerry who does the wonderful solo on I Will Rock and Roll With You), Silver and The Surviviors (with Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.)

1982 Jerry left Johnny for 20 years with the Statler Brothers, where his friend Marshall Grant was manager.

When I first heard these recordings that now is being releases here at Dusty Records it was Jerrys voice that hit me. It has strength and a warm, deep tone. I don't think it is neccesary to say that the guitar playing is great - The Man In Black only wanted the best.

The other mucisians on the CD are very well known. Johnny Cash sings duett on his own Flesh and Blood. The legendary Anita Carter appears on a couple of tracks just as Jimmy Fortune from the Statler Brothers.

The songs are a mix of Jerrys own and well choosen covers. The first song is a remake of Jerrys Cool Breeze Blowin', which first was released as a singel back in 1974. You'll also hear I'm alright now which Jerry wrote to his wife Patty, Johnny heard it and loved it so much that he recorded it for the album I Would Like To See You Again. Bob Dylan's Baby Blue and Carter Familys Gold Watch and Chain (with Anita Carter) are two classics which he makes with sensibility. You also get a great version of Stones No Expectations which Johnny Cash did on his album Gone Girl with Jerry on guitar.

We on Dusty Records are proud to be able to release this CD.

"... a top flight picker ...."

Fred Dellar, Mojo

"A superb debut album ... One can only hope that Hensle, having broken the ice with his debut album will soon be back in the studiofor his sophomore. Talent like this is far too good to be hidden for as long as it has."
